In the book Visitation of London John Collins is recorded as “John Collins of London Salter”, the information being given by his son, Daniel Collins. Since we have no indication that John ever lived in London, but rather spent his life in the Ipswich area, this brings up questions. Did he actually LIVE in London, and if so, when? Continue reading

John Collins (2) of Bramford
In my article, John Collins; One, Two or Three? I gave my reasoning for believing this John Collins was married only once, to Madelene Treherne. Continue reading
John Collins; One, Two or Three?
OK. Let’s admit it; there were, and are, thousands of men named John Collins. The name of Collins is very common in England and the name John is, by far, the most common first name of all. I’ve found the name ‘John Collins’ in just about every town and village, and considering the name is carried from generation to generation, it can become very confusing to figure out just which one is which. James Markham of Earls Colne

I have hunted through well over 200 sets of parish registers for the counties of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Middlesex and London and still haven’t found a baptismal record for this James Markham. If he was baptized at St. Andrew in Earls Colne there is no record of it. Continue reading
